Old news? What happened in the world of Turnip. . .
2007
- September 2007: The Longest 3 Minutes was shown at the Eugene International Film Festival in Oregon.
- End of 2007: The Triangle Filmmakers special interest group has gotten off the ground with about 30 members. In 2008 we will be shifting from "organizational" meetings to showing films and having other programs for filmmakers. Check out the link on the Community page of this web site.
- Fall 2007: After The Peak is complete and several additional public showings have taken place. Check out the web site just for this film: http://www.afterthepeak.com.
- Late summer, 2007: We finished shooting of Ajit Anthony Prem's amazing script Hello, Sorry, Whatever. Lots of editing work ahead at the moment.
- After The Peak, not quite complete, was shown on April 5th at the Century Center in downtown Carrboro as part of a public meeting on energy challenges and local solutions. Looked like about 200 people in the audience who gave the film a very warm reception. More public meetings like this will happen in future - if you want to sponsor a showing in your town, contact us.
- The Longest 3 Minutes was shown at the new All American Film Festival in Durham, February 23 & 24, 2007.
- Get Your Film Distributed! seminar held by MCAI on January 13, 2007 featuring Jerome Courshon from LA. You missed some invaluable insights into the process of finding distribution.
2006
- The Longest 3 Minutes was shown Wednesday, October 4, at Fishmonger's in Durham as part of Todd Tinkham's new monthly Film Night (every first Wednesday)
- After The Peak wrapped principal photography on September 24th.
- The Longest 3 Minutes was shown Saturday, September 16, as part of the Charlotte Film Festival. You missed a great Festival!
- After The Peak continued with a successful shoot of the "on the street" interviews and action-packed finale on June 9th.
- After The Peak began shooting in the TV Studio at Elon University. We captured all of the "in the studio" scenes with a cast and crew of 14 hard working folks.
- The Longest 3 Minutes was shown June 1st at the Light Factory (in Charlotte) as part of the Carolina Filmmakers Showcase.
- May 6: Auditions for After The Peak were attended by actors from 3 states! We thank them all.
- The Longest 3 Minutes was shown in March at the Filmmaker's Conference in New Bern and in April at the Pinwheel Film Festival at NCSU in Raleigh.
- January: Time Warner's cable show, Second Cinema, aired Dead Artist plus an interview with Jim McQuaid.
2005
- December: a commercial project we shot, Anthony Caporale's Art of The Drink, has been published and is for sale.
- December: finished up the last of several days shooting The Cell (Anthony Dunn, Director) in various locations including Yancyville, downtown Raleigh and a mystery warehouse. Assisted by Craig Vance and many of the Turnip "regulars" it was exhausting, fun, challenging.
- The Longest 3 Minutes is now complete, with its own web site, www.longest3minutes.com, and its own 24P anamorphic DVD.
- Composer Glenn Morrissette scored The Longest 3 Minutes. Morrissette recently won an award in the Turner Classic Films Young Composers Competition. Much more about Glenn at Glenn's web site.
- Touching was awarded Second Place in the Shorts Judging at the High Point Indie Film Faire (June 10 - 12).
- Touching was shown at the Pinwheel Film Festival at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina and at the Blu Moon Film Festival at ECU in Greenville, both on April 16th.
- Dead Artist was shown at the Just Another Film Festival in Ogden, Utah. The festival ran March 24 to 26.
- March 5, 2005 Touching was shown at the 3rd Annual Filmmakers Conference in New Bern, North Carolina.
- We spent much of January, February and March working on two major location shoots for Trouble in the Water which is now in post-production.
- The PSA we shot for Drew Wright / Brain Food Studios won an Honorable Mention in the contest for "Readiness PSAs." View the short online by following links from Brain Food Studios.
2004
- As of December 2004, Trouble in the Water has been cast and is now in final production planning. Written by Roger Edwards, Jr. it deals with aspects of growing up African-American in North Carolina.
- Touching was shown at the Southern Exposure film festival in Charlotte on November 20th and 21st. The Southern Exposure Film Festival is put on by the Charlotte Film and Video Association.
- Touching was shown as part of the Triad Indie Filmmakers Network evening in Greensboro on October 21st 2004 with various Turnip coop members in the audience. (If you haven't gone to one of these evenings, you are really missing a great chance to see and enjoy indie short films).
- Labor Day 2004: Post-production on Touching is complete. Running time, seventeen minutes. And work we are proud of.
- The June 2004 issue of Reel Carolina magazine had an article about Touching and how we used multiple cameras to shoot many of the scenes. The article includes a nice illustration featuring actors Kendall Rileigh, Dani Englander and Jane Perez.
- We shot a nifty little PSA for Brain Food Studios in July of 2004. Drew Wright of Brain Food Studio is the author, director.
- On June 21st, 2004 Jim McQuaid, of Turnip, was pleased to present "Managing Your Clients Expectations," to the MCAI chapter in Raleigh. The presentation was geared to working with clients who need help in staying focussed on the business goals of a video project they want you to do.
- Dead Artist shown on June 5, 2004 as part of the WARP Festival, sponsored by DADA at the Durham Arts Council, on April 16th at the Blu Moon Festival at ECU and at Triad Indie's March film night at the Green Bean in Greensboro. This is the slightly revised, final version of the film.
